A year-long, $22.5 million project to improve outbound Route 28 between Etna and the Highland Park Bridge is scheduled to begin Monday.

The right northbound lane and shoulder in the construction area will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Aug. 5, according to PennDOT.

The construction project includes:

• Replacement of the road surface

• New curbs, shoulders, lighting, signs and pavement markers

• Widening the roadway and approaches

• Drainage improvements
