The Fox Chapel boys lacrosse team headed into Monday night's showdown against top-ranked Kiski Prep with high hopes.
However, they came out on the short end of a 13-8 score.
"It would have been a nice win," said Coach Ty Wessell. "But, we still made the playoffs, finished second in the conference and got a first-round bye. We're having a very good season."
Alex George led the way for the Foxes with a pair of goals and three assists.
Tom Chmill also scored twice and added an assist and Tom Stewart scored twice.
The Foxes were without starting senior goalie Travis Rothert, who dislocated his thumb last week.
With Travis out, the Foxes started freshman Colin Cheng in goal.
"That was a tough situation for Colin and I hated to have to put him in like that, but he played well. He's a very talented player and he has a great future ahead of him."
The Foxes' next game will likely be on May 20 or 21 and Wessell is hoping that will be plenty of time for Rothert to heal.
"We're optimistic that he will be ready. We will see if we can get him some extra padding, but if circumstances dictate that he can't play, I have every confidence in Colin.
"He's already faced a pressure situation and we know he can do the job in goal. And we'll be playing at home so that will be an advantage for the entire team."
Last week, Fox Chapel dropped an 8-4 decision to Central Catholic.
Tom Stewart had two goals, Charlie Otte had a goal, Alex George had a goal and an assist and Tom Chmill added an assist.
George entered this week ranked fourth in scoring in the WPLSA with 68 points on 23 goals and 45 assists. Marshall Sams was 25th with 39 goals and four assists.
Otte has 41 points (23, 18) as does Tom Chmill (24, 17) while Tom Stewart has 37 (29, 8).
